Course 1: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

This course helps learners understand how diversity impacts the delivery of care to older adults living in California. Participants will explore the definitions of diversity, equity, and inclusion, along with other important related terminology. The course examines how social identities can influence the way services and care are provided. Learners will also develop an understanding of implicit bias — what it is, how to recognize it, and strategies for managing their own biases. In addition, the course highlights the importance of empathy in caregiving and emphasizes the value of learning about cultural differences. By increasing awareness of the diverse cultural experiences of those we serve, learners will be better prepared to provide respectful, inclusive, and person-centered care.
